Full Citizenship Must Remain a Voting Requirement

Voters decide who will lead our country, how our tax dollars are spent, and what policies we should adopt.

Immigration can adversely affect political stability

If conflict arises between groups living in close proximity due to the process of immigration, governments often respond by curtailing civil rights in a desperate attempt to preserve the public peace.   The security dilemma facing host nations becomes particularly acute when there is doubt about the long term consequences of immigrant activities.  Countless countries have failed from internal strife.  This ethnic and political fragmentation is called Balkanization.  Some examples are Pakistan, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and now Ukraine and Palestine.  Czechoslovakia was a rare case where the separation was peaceful and bloodshed and ethnic cleansing were avoided.

Allowing non-citizens and illegal immigrants to vote opens our country to foreign influence and holds the potential to misdirect how our resources are used.   Economic migrants primarily seeking generous government handouts in Canada are likely to vote to increase the welfare state.

A Growing Welfare State Imperils Democracy

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government.   It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.  From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.   The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.  These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”

Elections Canada Only Began to Purge Non-Citizen Voters in 2018

Elections Canada Seems to be Having Difficulties

“While we clearly communicate the citizenship requirement to vote, we depend on individuals to accurately indicate their Canadian citizenship.   At the same time, there is no one piece of identification that is universally held by all Canadians to prove citizenship.   Therefore, requiring documentary proof of citizenship when registering could disenfranchise many eligible electors.

The Canada Elections Act was amended in 2018 to allow the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to share information about non-citizens with the Chief Electoral Officer.

This information will allow Elections Canada to update the National Register of Electors on a regular basis by deleting information about individuals that are not electors because they are not Canadian citizens.”
